In the enchanting village of Elos, which is very close to Elafonissi, Kasteli, Kissamos and Falasarna, Chania, is the traditional tavern "Kastanofolia". Since 1969 we have been serving Cretan traditional dishes, honoring Greek gastronomy & especially Cretan cuisine. With fresh local products from our own vegetable garden & from local producers, with meat from breeders in the Chania area and all over Crete. With us you will find a rich menu of Greek dishes, ideal even for vegetarians but also gluten-free dishes.

In the place of our Tavern was the old olive mill of the village, which took water from the aqueduct of the area, part of which still exists in the area of our tavern. In 1969, where it began, it began to serve the first travelers arriving in the area, either heading to the nearby beach, in Elafonissi, or to the Monastery of Panagia Chrysoskalitissa. After more than 50 years, at the "Kastanofolia" Tavern, the visitor will find homemade food made from pure ingredients, fresh vegetables & fruits, as well as all the dishes of Cretan cuisine.

This place was as welcoming as I could have imagined. A wonderful quiet spot where a gracious family offered good food and smiles. We tried the fennel pie, pasta and lamb with potatoes. All were excellent. We lingered over the complimentary chestnut liqueur, which they make, and watermelon. I wish we had purchased some of the liqueur for later. Overall a terrific stop!
We stopped here while visiting the nearby beaches, and it ended up being one of our favorite restaurants in Crete! The food is excellent, highly recommend the grilled fish. Great service, and the restaurant itself is really cool too. It’s set into an old church, with a beautiful patio and lots of outdoor seating with a view. Highly recommend stopping here if you’re in the area!
Absolutely fantastic traditional tavern! In small village of Elos, wonderful atmosphere in the shadow of huge platan trees. The best place you can stop on the way from Elafonisi beach to Chania.
Excellent service and delicious authentic food. Very good value for money, plus the Portions are big without counting the complimentary starters and desert. I would definitely go back again.
Delicious organic traditional Greek food at a good price. Very fast and helpful service. The location is in the mountains, so if you had enough of the seaside you can chill in this wonderful location.
Delicious, traditional Greek food in reasonable price and other types of cousine are also very good, beautiful place with nice people and great atmosphere. It was our best meal in Crete!
I’m not usually giving reviews but I had to do it now. This is one of the best places to eat in Crete. The food is great and the staff is very friendly.

The Elos Area (The Village & Agios Dikaios)
The village of Elos is located near Kasteli, Kissamos between the road that connects Chania with the beautiful Elafonisi and also near Falasarna. It is the ideal spot for a refreshing stop for coffee & breakfast in the morning or lunch under the many plane trees, giving the visitor a breath of fresh air & moments of tranquility.
The village of Elos, takes its name from the abundant waters that gather in the area, which originate from the foothills of Agios Dikaiios Job and offer coolness & abundant greenery and in the summer is an oasis for the residents & visitors on the way to Chrysoskalitissa and Elafonissi.
